Should you have a problem with your contractor, there are several ways to resolve the issues. In most situations the contractor wants you to be a satisfied customer.

The First Step is to protect yourself from the beginning of your project by having a written contract that specifies, among other items, the work to be done. Part of the first step is also checking the contractor's license, insurance and references.

A Final Step is to file a lawsuit. Lawsuits are expensive and time consuming. While the litigation goes on, you will have to finish your project with another contractor. If the original contractor claims you owe them money, they may be able to file a lien on your property to insure payment when the litigation eventually reaches a conclusion.
